Conducting External Research in the York Region District School Board

While being supportive of external research, the Board recognizes that students have been entrusted to the schools for their own personal education and considers this its primary focus. All external research must support priorities as outlined in Board Plans. It is expected that external research will not have an adverse effect on students, staff, or Board resources. To allow access to the schools while safeguarding the education process, applications for conducting research are reviewed by the External Research Review Committee. This committee considers all applications carefully using the criteria outlined on the following pages. Following approval by the External Research Review Committee, conducting of research within a specific school is subject to the approval of the principal. Research project timelines must be negotiated with each school to minimize disruption and avoid school examination periods or events, semester changes and provincial assessments. Data collection in September and June will not be approved.

The deadlines for submitting the External Research application are outlined in the table below.  Please allow 4-6 weeks for the processing and review of the application.
