Supported by hospital staff, students will work in teams to develop creative solutions to challenges encountered with meal intake for hospital patients. Students will also work with hospital staff to help design a hospital youth advisory council.
Students will eat hospital food in a variety of realistic scenarios to help build empathy. The scenarios will reflect some of the physical, emotional and systemic challenges hospital patients may encounter during mealtimes, such as limited vision or restricted physical movement.
The event is organized in collaboration with CreateIT Now, a healthcare-focused innovation centre at Southlake Regional Health Centre. The event gives students an opportunity to learn from hospital staff, collaborate, problem solve and apply their learning in an authentic environment.
