Markham, ON - Six York Region District School Board Students from Aurora High School and Huron Heights Secondary School were awarded medals in the York Region Skills Challenge Transportation event. Participants from eight YRDSB schools competed at the event held on December 4 at Markham District High School

The two first-place, gold medal winners were from Aurora High School. Mateen Mirzai and Nathan Roberts will represent YRDSB at the Skills Ontario events in May 2019.

Second place, silver medals were awarded to two Huron Heights S.S. students from Newmarket, Griffin Giordano and Austin Birtles.

Third place, bronze medal winners Rehan Ratanzi and Shahin Sajadian were also from Aurora H.S.

“We are very proud to be able to showcase some of the great work of our students in the skilled trades. They have shown high levels of achievement in problem solving, creativity, time management and work safety,” said Heather Sears, Superintendent of Education, Curriculum and Instructional Services. “We wish them the best of luck as they compete in the Skills Ontario events.”

At last week’s event students walked away with more than just medals as they also received prizes such as power tools and mini screw drivers for their participation.

Representatives from Centennial College and the Drive Autogroup supported the judging of the event.
