Be certified as a lifeguard ready for employment

Ministry of Education - Ontario Secondary School Credit and Lifesaving Society Certifications:

  • 1 Secondary School Credit – Healthy Living and Aquatic Activities, Grade 10 (PAQ2O)
  • Bronze Cross
  • Bronze Medallion
  • Standard First Aid

Prerequisite:

Students must be:

  • 13 years of age or older 
  • Able to swim 400 metres continuously
  • Currently attending Secondary School
For specific details about the Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, Standard First Aid, Lifesaving Instructors, Swim Instructors and National Lifeguard Qualifications, visit the City of Markham​​  or  the Lifesaving Society website.

Start Date: September 24, 2019                 
End Date: January 14, 2020
Location: Aaniin Community Centre - 5665 14th Avenue, Markham, ON 905-475-4851
Cost: $200.00 (covers Lifesaving Society course materials and exam fees; all types of payment accepted by City of Markham)
 
Aquatic Leadership Courses through the City of Markham recommend 100% attendance.  Late admission cannot be granted.  For this reason, cancellation requests must be submitted a minimum of five business days prior to the start of the first class in order to receive a refund.  No refund will be granted for late requests.

     Aaniin Community Centre - Tuesday and Thursday Classes.
     September 24, 2019 to January 14, 2020, 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

The decision to run classes is based on student enrollment and teacher availability. Students must attend all classes. Assessments and Evaluations will occur throughout the program.
 

Course Expectations will be assessed and evaluated using Standard Lifesaving Society evaluation criteria and the Ontario Ministry of Education Expectations.

 An examiner from the Lifesaving Society will evaluate the aquatic skills required for lifeguarding and swim and lifesaving instructor certifications.
