Secondary School Summer 2020

To help reduce the spread of COVID-19, Continuing Education Services is adjusting its Summer Learning program offerings to align with public health guidelines. Please be advised that our traditional in class face-to-face summer programs will move to a remote learning delivery model as per Ministry direction.  We will continue to follow Ministry direction and if there are any changes to our program delivery model we will communicate those changes to the system.

As these are unprecedented times, we encourage staff and students to continue to monitor our Board’s website and monitor the Board’s Twitter account @YRDSB as updated information will be posted in those forums.

The York Region District School Board will once again be offering acceleration and credit recovery/reinforcement course during the summer.

  • Acceleration courses start Monday, July 6 and ends Wednesday, July 29.
  • Session 1 for credit recovery/reinforcement courses start Monday, July 6 and ends Thursday, July 16.
  • Session 2 for credit recovery/reinforcement courses start Friday, July 17 and ends Wednesday, July 29
Each day starts at the 8:45 am and ends at 3:33 pm. Schools remain closed. The program will be delivered virtually through remote learning which is a mix of synchronous (real-time) and asynchronous learning.
In some cases, course registrations have been moved to another summer school location to accommodate our learners.  Students will be contacted if the course they registered in is cancelled. As an alternative students can check the course offerings the day before the first class.
Before the start of the program, students will receive an email with instructions on how to join the class on the first day. YRDSB students will login with their gapps accounts and Non-YRDSB students will be provided with different instructions that will be sent to the email address provided on their registration form.
Students are responsible for attending regularly scheduled classes and submitting work on a daily basis. There are two 15 minute breaks and a 40 minute lunch. Attendance will be taken.

Please see information on How to Register and Course offerings.

Important information:
  • Please double check the website, the night before your first class, to ensure your chosen course has not been cancelled.
  • Decisions to run courses are based on sufficient enrolment and teacher availability.
  • Courses are attached to locations for registration purposes. Face-to-face summer programs will move to a remote learning delivery model as per Ministry direction.
