Students - Summer Co-operative Education
Co-op is an opportunity to practice and demonstrate the knowledge and skills you acquire in the classroom to a workplace setting. It is a great way to learn by doing! You will get to:
  • demonstrate your knowledge, skills, and attitudes through hands-on experience
  • explore a career in order to make informed educational and career decisions
  • demonstrate your initiative and self-confidence
  • gain valuable work experience
  • earn credits towards your OSSD or SHSM diploma
  • network by building connections for future job opportunities.
Your Co-op program is made up of:
  • the cooperative education course; and
  • a subject-related course.
Summer Co-op might be a fit for you if you are:
  • you are prepared to participate in a blended learning model throughout the course (May- August)
  • you have already successfully completed at least one grade 11 or grade 12 credit, and will be
    • entering Grade 12 and unable to take Co-op in your regular day school as confirmed by the Co-op Department Head at your day school, or
    • entering Grade 12 with less than 22 credits, or
    • registered in an SHSM program and have successfully completed a grade 11 or grade 12 credit in your SHSM bundle of courses and unable to take Co-op in your regular day school as confirmed by the Co-op Department Head at your day school, or
  • you require these final 2 credits to earn your OSSD this current school year.

Prior to applying for summer co-op please review the YRDSB Summer Co-op Information Sheet. You must apply for SCOOP programming through the summer school application process on Career Cruising or through your school guidance department. The Co-op holding codes are COP3X- Grade 11 or COP4X- Grade 12 (please note: registering on Career-Cruising does not guarantee program acceptance). After registering, you will be able to access a hyperlink to complete an online application form.

Once you have completed the application package, please submit it to the Community-Based Education Department Head in your home school.

You will be invited to have a pre-placement interview with the summer school teacher prior to program acceptance. This helps to ensure that you are appropriately matched with a placement and program.
