Application Process

Intake & Registration Dates

Required Documents

Before beginning the application process, it is suggested that you download and become familiar with the Admissions Guidelines and the Quick Reference/Fee Schedule documents.

  • Application Form - completed, signed and dated by both parents and the student
  • Academic Application - Supplementary Gr 9-12 Form - signed and dated by both parents and the student
  • Letter of Recommendation - completed and signed by the parent and school official 
  • Official copies of school report cards, in English, for the current year and previous year. English translation must be notarized
  • Consent for Information Sharing-Students at the Age of Majority Form (secondary students who are 18 at the time of registration)
  • Copy of Passport (photo page)
  • Copy Notarized Custodianship Declaration documents (Parent & Custodian), required in all cases, regardless of student's age
  • Copy of IELTS or TOEFL Official Test Results Report (Grade 12 applicants only)
  • Homestay/Custodianship Application (if applicable) - signed and dated by parents and the student. If homestay is required, a homestay application must be submitted along with the academic application. We are unable to accommodate nor guarantee all homestay requests; but we will notify you once a homestay decision is confirmed

NOTE: original documents received by YRDSB will not be returned

Official Immunization Record, in English, must accompany the student upon arrival English translation must be notarized.

Payment of Fees

It is suggested to submit only the application fee with the application package.

Full payment will be required after the conditional offer is issued by International Education Services, and accepted by the parent/guardian.  


Steps to Follow

Step 1

  • Complete the application form and required documents. Collectively these, together, form the application package
  • Prepare the application fee payment in Canadian funds. Payment is accepted in the form of bank draft, money order, certified cheque (payable to York Region District School Board), or online by accessing the Global Payment portal
  • Submit the application package to the Admissions Office, International Education Services
  • Upon receipt of the application package and the application fee the Admissions Officer will review the application Once accepted a conditional offer of admissions including an invoice indicating the balance of fees required to complete the process will be sent by email

Step 2

  • Accept the conditional offer by replying to the email and prepare the payment balance. Payment is accepted in the form of a bank draft, money order, certified cheque or online by accessing the Global Payment portal.
  • Once payment is received the official acceptance package will be sent by email

Step 3

  • Apply to the nearest Canadian Embassy, Consulate or High Commission for a study permit and present the letter of acceptance, the receipt of fees paid and all other documents required by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)

Step 4

  • Upon receipt of a study permit, make arrangements to arrive in Canada two weeks prior to the start of school When the flight is confirmed send the Arrival Confirmation form by fax (905-773-2046) or email (
  • Prepare up-to-date immunization documents (in English - translation must be notarized) which must accompany the student, upon arrival, and submitted to York Region Public Health when requested

Step 5

  • Elementary students: Upon arrival in Ontario contact the Reception Centre Office (Telephone: 905-918-0080 or 1-888-811-0229) and make an appointment for an education assessment
  • Secondary students: Attend the student orientation to participate in the education assessments and register for school
