Mark your calendars for the YRDSB Skills Challenge (Y.R.S.C.) and Skills ​Ontario events for 2018-19!

 ​​

Students from across York Region high schools will have the opportunity to compete against fellow students in a skills-based challenge showcasing their skills and talents while building confidence and experience in a personal area of interest.​

Secondary Transportation   

This competition will provide competitors with the opportunity to demonstrate, through practical and theoretical application, their skills and task knowledge in the automotive industry and to display and challenge the competitors with several real life automotive repair situations in an effort better prepare students to enter into the trade of Automotive Service Technician.​

Elementary Robotics   

Associated with the York Region Skills Challenge, Elementary Robotics (Grades 4-8) will begin with four area competitions in January 2019.  Schools may select one location of their choice and will be limited to 2 teams per school; junior (grades 4-6) and/or intermediate (grades 7-8).  Registration is open from October 10-24, 2018.

York Region Skills Challenge (YRSC) - Elementary and Secondary Events 

Schools have the opportunity to express their commitment to skills-based education while supporting their students in one or more of 29 challenge events.  Challenges are offered for students in grades 4-6, grades 7-8 and secondary grades (9-12). ​​

All students who participate in Y.R.S.C. will receive a medal of participation at the end of the day’s events. Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners to recognize their distinct achievement.  Gold medal winners of most competitions advance to compete provincially at the Skills Ontario Competition.  


 

Skills Ontario Competitions (SOC) - Elementary and Secondary Events ​

To be held at the Toronto Congress Centre on May 6-7, 2019. A qualifying competition taking The top team from YRSC may represent York Region at the Skills Ontario Competition on May 6, 2019.place at Humber College, Saturday, April 6, 2019 applies to some challenges.

Gold medal winners of the some secondary competitions at the Skills Ontario Competition advance to the National Skills Competitions in some secondary events to be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, May 28-29, 2019. 

Top finishers from Skills Ontario secondary events may have the opportunity to compete at the Canadian National Skills Competition in Halifax, Nova Scotia, May 28-29, 2019.  Please visit the Skills Canada website for more details.


​SHSM & Skills Ontario Events

Secondary students enrolled in the Specialist High Skills Major Program (SHSM) can earn possible certi​ficates and/or experiential learning towards their SHSM designation.  Speak to your school SHSM team for further information and further information can be provided in the SHSM-Skills Chart on resources page. 


 
 

 Students interested in participating in the YRDSB Sk​ills Challenge must be registered by a supporting teacher.  Registration opens early December.  ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
