Volunteer Experience Program
The Summer Institute is a summer learning program unlike any other, set in its own community atmosphere. Children enjoy a variety of hands-on programs and activities giving them reasons to hope, dream, and aspire to any goal based on a foundation of academic success.

Volunteers serve as an important role in our program. Each volunteer will work in a program under the direction of the counsellor and program leader.

Application Process:

Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day. 7 volunteer hours per day plus a 30 minute lunch.
Volunteer Hours: 35 hours per week, except weeks 1 and 5 which are 28 hours.
Commitment: Suggested minimum TWO full weeks, additional weeks available. Preference will be given to applicants who can volunteer for more than two weeks in the same program area.
Uniform: Volunteer t-shirt provided.
For 2019, we will be accepting volunteer apllication forms on or after March 6th.

Application Deadline: May 31, 2019

Each Summer Institute site can host a limited number of volunteers. Summer Institutes sites may close the volunteer application process when they have reached a maximum number of applicants. Only successful applicants will be contacted by email from the Summer Institute site staff after May 31, 2019.

Please Note:

  • Students must be entering grade 9-12 in September 2019 to be considered.
  • Non-YRDSB Student Volunteers will require a Police Vulnerable Sector Check prior to volunteering at the Summer Institute.
The Summer Institute values personal safety, self-respect, respect for others, respect for property and respect for programs. Individuals who are unable to help us promote these values may be removed from the program.
