Reporting an Issue About the Human Rights Commissioner's Office (HRCO) at York Region District School Board
Reporting an Issue

Any member of the Board community can access the Human Rights Commissioner's Office for:

  • Information on human rights at the Board
  • Determining if a complaint is Code-based
  • Learning about filing a human rights complaint
  • Finding out about human rights training and education
The standard process for filing a human rights complaint with the HRCO is through a referral. However, there are certain instances in which someone may contact the human rights office without a referral.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality governs all communications with the HRCO. Please note: the HRCO does not accept anonymous complaints. The HRCO considers all personal information, including reasons for reaching out to our office to be confidential at all times. If disclosure of information is necessary to respond to a request, we work closely with the discloser(s) to determine the most productive way to share information.

In exceptional circumstances, where required by law or where there is risk of significant harm to anyone’s health or safety, we may refer the matter to appropriate parties within the Board and/or notify third parties, such as the police or child protection authorities.
