As with each school in the York Region District School Board, Aurora Heights P.S. supports student learning through the curriculum standards set out by the Ontario Ministry of Education and many other co-curricular activities.
Our school promotes a safe and supportive learning environment. This is done through the Board’s Safe Schools Policy and Procedures and the Character Education Initiatives.
We have two Student Support Centres for students who have identified needs. We offer partially self-contained programs as well as withdrawal, resource and monitored support. In addition, we have a Grade 1 Reading Recovery program for students in need of early intervention.
We continue to be actively involved with the Board’s Literacy Collaborative Project at the Primary and Junior grade levels.
We have many parent volunteers who work in the classrooms and around the school. Parent volunteers support our classroom initiatives, field trips, fundraising events and more recently have organized a popular in-school lunch activity program for students of all ages.
We offer the following programs to our students:
- Guest speakers and workshops
- Ongoing and informal social skills counseling, e.g. Reflection Room, class meetings, small group meetings, office intervention
- Student Leadership programs
- Grade 6 VIP program
- Cross-country, Volleyball and Basketball Teams, Track and Field, Terry Fox Run, Active Healthy Living, Arts, Choir, various clubs and Band
