Over the past year, Aurora Heights Public School, the school Board and the community have all been involved in the development of our new plan for continuous improvement. The information from the parent survey circulated last spring was an important element of this process. This three year plan, (2005—08) involves a strong level of commitment from staff, parents and of course, our students.
Our future direction is dedicated to three major areas of school improvement:
Curriculum Implementation and Student Learning, Effective Schools, and Parental and Community involvement.
The following summary will help to explain each area of the plan and how it will impact future student success:
Curriculum: To improve literacy skills – with an emphasis on reading comprehension, writing and Math literacy using a greater variety of resources both in the classroom and the library, (some aimed specifically at boys).
Effective Schools: Parents and students will gain a better understanding of school policies and practices as we increase the amount of communication and expectations for students and model effective learning skills in a safe and supportive environment.
Parental Involvement: We will make every effort to build greater collaboration with our School Council and parent community as it relates to student well being, curriculum demands and behaviour.
As part of this three year plan our strategies include providing workshops for our staff and parents; purchasing and implementing relevant resources and communicating regularly with our community members.
