Policies & Procedures & Protocols
All students registered with Night/Summer School e-Learning will receive access to the online Student Handbook which outlines in detail the policies and procedures of the program.

Assistance: For assistance with a course question, contact your teacher. Make sure your request includes your name, email address, telephone number where you can be reached and the best time to reach you. You may email general queries to: coned.elearning@yrdsb.ca.

Academic Dishonesty and Plagiarism will not be tolerated. Students are expected to read the plagiarism guidelines.

Assessment and Evaluation: Assignments and tests are to be submitted in a timely fashion. Teachers will provide feedback in a timely manner. Comments indicating strengths and areas in need of improvement will be included in the feedback. Details about the evaluation policy for a specific course will be given by the teacher.

Attendance: If a student is ill or absent from the program, they must inform the teacher. Students who do not maintain regular contact with the teacher or do not complete assignments will be withdrawn from the course. All withdrawals for non-activity will be processed after the mid-semester report is issued and Full Disclosure rules will apply. The $20 registration fee will not be refunded.

Board Policies and Procedures: All Board policies and their related procedures, where applicable, are available on our Board Public Website or in school offices.

Class Participation: Students will be asked to participate in group discussions in an online chat, threaded discussion conference or in a live virtual classroom setting. Discussion and online classroom areas will be monitored daily by the teacher.

Communication: Constant communication between teacher and student is essential for success in a course. In addition to ongoing email communication, teachers will make themselves available to students for help during a specific time each week as “office hours”. If the teacher is ill or absent, a message will be posted which will open automatically for students informing them of the situation.

Course Withdrawal: To withdraw (cancel) from a course, the student must send an email to the teacher or to Night/Summer School e-Learning. All borrowed materials must be returned before the cancellation will be processed. Failure to officially cancel from a course will result in a mark being posted on the transcript. The mark will be the average of all work, including zeroes for work not submitted up to and including the final exam.

Exams: All students must write face-to-face final exams for each course. Exams must be written at the Dr. Bette Stephenson Centre for Learning in Richmond Hill on the scheduled date (check the Important Dates Calendar for exam dates).  All exams will be supervised by Night/Summer School e-Learning teachers.

Full Disclosure Policy on Transcripts (Grades 11 & 12): A mark will be posted on the Ontario Student Transcript for all students who are registered in a grade 11 or 12 course five days after the date of the Mid-semester report.

Internet Acceptable Use Guidelines Students are expected to read and abide by the guidelines.

Important Dates: Ensure that you review the Important Dates Calendar and make note of the relevant dates in your personal calendar.

Orientation and Meet the Teacher Session: Students who are registered for a credit course will be invited to attend a face to face (in person) orientation session to receive important information about our program and to meet the teacher and other students in their course.

Orientation Assignment: Students will be expected to complete a mandatory orientation assignment prior to starting the first module in their credit course. Completion of the assignment ensures that students are able to navigate the learning platform.

Registration Deadline: The Night/Summer School e-Learning program is a semester program which will have a registration deadline. In exceptional cases students may be accepted into e-Learning after the registration deadline. Students who register late will need to complete the course in less time. No modifications to the date of the final exam will be made for late registrants.

Registration and Other Fees: A non-refundable application fee of $20.00 per course is due with the online application. Payment may be made online using a credit card (Master Card/ Visa). If the course does not run, a full refund will be given. There may also be a text/ supply fee in some courses.  Visa students, non-residents of Ontario, and others who do not qualify to take courses in Ontario will be required to pay the full tuition fee.​

System Requirements: Prior to signing up for Night/Summer School e-Learning, ensure that you are technically ready and have access to a computer and High-Speed Internet at home. 

Teacher Interviews: Teachers are available throughout the course to discuss academic progre​ss with students and parents of non-adult students.
