Notes on Translation
The electronic translation service on the York Region District School Board's website is hosted by Google Translate. The quality of the translation will vary in some of the languages offered by Google. Google Translate is a free service and currently offers translation in over 50 languages, although an impressive number, this does not capture all languages or dialects. The basic translation’s goal is to capture the general intention of the original English material.
The York Region District School Board does not guarantee the quality, accuracy or completeness of any translated information. Before you act on translated information, the Board encourages you to confirm any facts that are important to you and affect any decisions you may make.
The York Region District School Board is committed to parent, family and community engagement, and it is our hope that by providing this tool on our website that we are making our information more accessible to families whose first language is not English and thereby enabling better engagement in public education.

Page Content Welcome to all the families in the Joseph A. Gibson Public School Community!
At Joseph A. Gibson Public School, we are inspired and committed to building safe, healthy and inclusive learning and working environments where every individual knows that they matter and belong. We are committed to developing ethical leaders, through initiatives like our Colour House leaders, Youth Space partnership, school band and numerous other student committees and teams. We prioritize building trusting and collaborative relationships among students, families and staff through developing shared solutions based on a foundation of respectful and regular communication and responsive actions.
Our staff is committed to providing effective instruction and assessment that reflect students’ identities, lived experiences, strengths, needs and interests. This focus on effective instruction and assessment includes differentiating and diversifying teaching strategies, instruction and tasks to support the individual needs of each student and using resources that are accessible to learners and reflective of the school community.
We understand that the school community extends beyond the walls of the building and we deeply value our families as partners in education. Our dedicated School Council plays an important role in improving student achievement and enhancing the accountability of the educational system. They do an exceptional job representing the community and advocating for ALL children from JK-grade 8 and in Gr. 1 French Immersion when making program and/or fundraising decisions. New members are always welcome, so please contact the school for more information on how you can join Council.
We have a motto at Joseph A. Gibson that states that we are Committed to Children and our efforts, as a school, will continue to focus on Student Achievement and Well-Being. We believe student achievement is a joint effort and are proud of the partnership we have with families and the school community; and the positive impact it has on student achievement and success at school. To stay informed about important updates, events, and calendar items please read our weekly Gibson Gazette communications.
Collaboratively yours,
Brett McLean,
Principal
