Pre-Advanced Place​ment (AP)

Grade 8 students wishing to be considered for early acceptance into the Pre-Advanced
Placement (AP) program at Langstaff Secondary School must submit an early application. Students accepted to the program will still be required to register at Langstaff SS per the YRDSB secondary school registration process.

WHAT IS Pre-AP a​nd AP?

The Pre-Advanced Placement (pre-AP) Program at Langstaff SS prepares students for senior level AP courses and creates a community of students and educators who are passionate, motivated and committed to academic excellence.  The AP Program (AP) at Langstaff Secondary School allows senior students to take advanced level courses and exams, giving them university-level academic experience, and possibly even first-year university credits at post-secondary institutions worldwide. At Langstaff S.S., the AP program creates a community of students and educators who are passionate, motivated and committed to academic excellence.
 
AP course work has shown to boost writing skills, increase problem solving abilities and develop better study habits. One of the biggest incentives for students enrolled in the program is that they will be prepared to meet the demands of university courses.
 

Which Pre-AP COURSES ARE AVAILABLE?

Enriched Pre-AP courses at Langstaff SS are offered in the following subjects:
 
Pre AP - Grade 9  (English, French*, Math & Science)
Pre AP - Grade 10 (English, French*, Math & Science)
Pre AP - Grade 11 (Biology, English, French & Math)
Pre AP - Grade 12 (Biology, English, French & Math)
 
*All grade 9-11 French Immersion & Core  courses have pre-AP units embedded into the program.
 

APPLICATION DEADLINE

 
Completed PreAP application (2).docxPreAP application (2).docx MUST be submitted to the Guidance Office at Langstaff Secondary School by Friday, November 29, 2019 before 3:00 p.m.
 

HOW M​UCH DOES IT CO$T?

 
There is no cost to take Pre-AP and AP courses at Langstaff SS. 
There is a cost to write the AP Exams in May of the Grade 12 year. 
The approximate cost is $94 USD per Exam.
 

WHEN WILL I HEAR ​BACK?

 
Students will receive a notification of acceptance into the Pre-AP Program by:
Friday, December 20, 2019.
