Special Education Programs (Placement into all programs is decided by an IPRC Autism Class:  This program is designed to provide an alternative class for high school aged students identified with Autism and require a great deal of direction and support. This is a non-credit functional life skills program.
 
ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) Program Support for OSSD (Ontario Secondary School Diploma:  The ASD program provides a structured setting that focuses on social-emotional, communication, advocacy, problem solving, and learning skills. Students take 50% of their classes in a specifically designed setting and also take credit bearing courses in the regular class setting with support.  Accommodations are provided by their IEP.
 
Intensive Support:  This non-credit program focuses on literacy and numeracy skills, personal management skills, advocacy, problem solving and critical thinking skills through an individualized program. This program helps to build on the skills needed to move into credit courses.  Integration into regular classes is provided for elective optional courses. Students may also be involved in experiential learning opportunities which include community based work experience.
 
Language/Learning Disability:  This is a two year program designed to meet the needs of students who have been identified with a language based Learning Disability. Students work on the applied grade level expectations and receive accommodations as determined by their IEP. Courses are taught by Special Education Teachers and include Math, English, grade 9 Geography, grade 10 History, grade 10 Civics and Careers, and Learning Strategies.
 
Senior Intensive Resource Support: This program provides additional support beyond a withdrawal setting (Learning Strategies) for students in grade 11 and 12. Placement is determined by specific needs of individual students. Students take 50% of their courses within the program and receive direct support. All courses are credit bearing.
 
Gifted:  The Gifted program is available in grades 9 and 10 for those students identified as Intellectually Gifted.  It is based on Ministry curriculum expectations which differentiate through depth, breadth, pace and kind to address students learning needs and styles. All courses are taught by subject department teachers and include Math, English, and Science, grade 9 Geography and grade 10 History. Students are mentored by a Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT). Some departments offer senior level enriched courses as well as AP (advanced placement) to provide the additional learning opportunities for gifted students in grades 11 and 12.
 
Learning Strategies (GLE10/GLE20) Skills for Success in Secondary School:  These courses focus on learning strategies to help students become better, more independent learners. Students will learn how to develop and apply literacy and numeracy skills, personal management skills, interpersonal and teamwork skills to improve their learning and achievement in school, the workplace and the community. The course helps students build confidence and motivation to pursue opportunities for success in secondary school and beyond. The grade 9 program will focus on strategies for success in high school and the grade 10 course provides support for students to prepare for the OSSLT (Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test).
 
Learning Strategies (GLE30/GLE40) Skills for Success in Secondary School:  These courses improve student’s learning and personal management skills, preparing them to make successful transitions to work, training and/or post-secondary education destinations. Students will access their learning abilities and use literacy, numeracy, research skills and personal management techniques to maximize their learning. Students will investigate trends and resources to support their post-secondary employment, training and/or educational choices and develop and plan to help them meet their individual goals.
