School Council

Education is a partnership involving parents, students, teachers, principals, community and school boards.

School councils provide advice on school matters and help to strengthen the important relationship between schools, parents/guardians and their communities.

All members of the school community are welcome to attend council meetings. Parents/guardians and community members are key to a successful school council. Getting involved gives you the opportunity to be part of a team working to ensure a high quality of education. School councils are supported in their work through various resources available online or through the school administrator.

This is just one way families can get involved to support students and schools. Learn about other things you can do to engage with your child’s learning at home and at school.

SJAM Constitution, Revised Summer 2017

The positive and effective relationship between SJAM and our community is promoted through consultation, collaboration and strong communication programs.

One of the ways our partnership and communication is strengthened is through the School Council, which serves as a means of improving student learning and school effectiveness.  The Sir John A. Macdonald School Council (SJAMSC) exist to provide parents, staff, students and community representatives with a more responsible and active role in the education programs and services here at the school.

Council Members are identified or elected at the first meeting of the new school year, in accordance with the SJAMSC Constitution.  The SJAMSC Executive is elected from the Members at the same meeting.  Parents and community stakeholders are invited to attend any SJAMSC meeting and to actively participate in the Council’s actions and initiatives.
