Welcome to all in our SJAM school community!

Our SJAM staff have a strong commitment to student achievement and well-being, creating an environment where everyone feels safe, welcome and respected. Throughout the year your child will be provided with many opportunities to grow intellectually, socially and emotionally within a framework emphasizing a positive self-concept.  We are working together to support improved student achievement and well-being. As a school and together with our School Council we develop our school goals - which align with our BIPSA (Board Improvement Plan for Student Achievement) and our 3 areas of focus:  Mathematics, Mental Health, Modern Learning.  Please join us at a School Council meeting to learn more!

As a staff, we believe all of Sir John A Macdonald students are OUR students. We take joint responsibility for each of their successes. We believe that all students have the right to feel like this is their home– that they belong – that they are respected as individuals and that they have a voice. Our goal is the development of citizens who will think critically, make decisions wisely, respect others, and behave responsibly. We embrace student voice and student choice to help guide our school initiatives and learning activities.

We believe communication is critical for student success.  Your children, our students, must see us as partners in their education.  We will contact you when (and if) your child develops patterns of poor decision making, and when they are not engaged in their learning.  We will ask that we work together to strategize our next steps towards improvement.  We will also contact you when there is reason for specific praise and celebration of success as we are often proud of student achievement and are excited to let you know -  as well as to ask you to extend the praise at home.    Please do keep the lines of communication open.   Let us know about medications your child may be on, planned trips, or conflicts that may affect your child’s day to day learning.  Our understanding of these matters will benefit your child’s self-esteem as well as their achievement levels.

I hope that you are proud of our school, that you know that your voice matters and that you feel a sense of belonging as a partner in education for all at SJAM. I look forward to our continued learning and growing together in this wonderful school community affectionately known as the Jaguar Jungle and SJAM!
