Notes on Translation
The electronic translation service on the York Region District School Board's website is hosted by Google Translate. The quality of the translation will vary in some of the languages offered by Google. Google Translate is a free service and currently offers translation in over 50 languages, although an impressive number, this does not capture all languages or dialects. The basic translation’s goal is to capture the general intention of the original English material.
The York Region District School Board does not guarantee the quality, accuracy or completeness of any translated information. Before you act on translated information, the Board encourages you to confirm any facts that are important to you and affect any decisions you may make.
The York Region District School Board is committed to parent, family and community engagement, and it is our hope that by providing this tool on our website that we are making our information more accessible to families whose first language is not English and thereby enabling better engagement in public education.

The SDSS Library is making significant strides in becoming a Learning Commons. A “Learning Commons is a whole school vision of students, staff and community members learning collaboratively. In a Learning Commons, learning is always happening - every day, with everyone, everywhere. Understanding the Learning Commons is the focus of Together for Learning: School Libraries and the Emergence of the Learning Commons, a vision document for school libraries written by the Ontario School Library Association (OSLA).” (BWW; What is the Learning Commons)

The SDSS Library Learning Commons supports student learning through:- literacy, including multiliteracies and creating and sustaining engaged readers
- numeracy
- knowledge, thinking, communication and application of learning
- development of imagination, creativity, communication, and problem-solving as seen in authentic inquiry
- equitable access to a wide variety of resources
- seamless integration of technology into learning and
- partnerships between staff, students, and the community
- engaging, differentiated, and safe spaces for learning and exploration
- 8 spaces: Cozy Reading Nook, Quiet Reading Space, Pair Tables, Classroom/Small Group Work, Larger Group Work, Computer Lab, Seminar Room, MakerSpace
- open, dynamic and fluid physical learning spaces for individuals, small groups, large groups and whole classes
- 24/7 access to a variety of resources and information including books, digital resources, electronic databases, audio and video that are responsive to learners interests and needs
