English Department Policies
General expectations
English courses require active participation. It is expected that students will contribute to the class by being prepared, listening to others, and contributing actively to class discussion. Assessment of learning skills and work habits will occur; these have a direct impact on achievement, since process work is a part of evaluation.
Specific policies
1.      All assignments are expected on specific due dates decided on and announced in class. If you need an extension, it must be discussed personally with your teacher well before the due date. The agreed upon alternative will become the new due date. Failure to submit an assignment by the agreed upon date will result in a grade of zero.
2.      Presentations and in-class evaluations: contact your teacher as soon as possible if an unforeseeable conflict arises. Students who know that they will be absent for a scheduled evaluation must notify the teacher immediately and make alternative arrangements prior to the absence.
3.      Assignments must be submitted with full process such as an outline, notes, drafts, etc. An assignment without process will not be accepted or evaluated, and will be given a zero after the due date.
4.      Following the policy in the start-up information booklet, students should speak with the teacher when in doubt about how to be academically honest. Plagiarism is “the act of using another person’s ideas, expressions or representations in your work without acknowledging the sources,” and will result in a zero.
