Federal Election - October 19th
Election years offer students and schools an opportunity to enhance the learning that already takes place day-to-day in our classrooms.  Election campaigns bring to the forefront different platforms and issues that our students may be exploring in the classroom in a variety of subjects including Science, Social Science, Civics, History, Family Studies, or Economics. Elections are real life examples of our democratic process in action. It is an opportunity for students to:
  • Build awareness of social issues in Canada and the world
  • Understand Canada’s political process
  • Develop a sense of civic responsibility
  • Practice critical thinking
  • Examine different points of view
  • Learn how to make informed choices
  • Volunteer and earn Community Involvement Hours
Here are some ways that parents can support their child’s learning:
  • Ask your child about what they are learning in the classroom
  • Talk about the election in your home; candidates, platforms, election process
  • Take your child with you when you vote
Although most of our students are not old enough to vote in these elections, many of our schools partner with Student Vote to offer election simulation experiences to students. During the official election period students will be given the opportunity to cast a ballot for a candidate in their school’s electoral district.
