Welcome to Maple Leaf PS!

Our school, built in 1959, is a kindergarten to grade eight elementary school located in central Newmarket, Ontario. We currently have about 280 students and are excited to welcome grade one French Immersion students in the fall of 2021.

We are very proud of our school community and the programming our educators offer.  It has been through the outstanding work of the educators in the school, and partnerships with our families and the Newmarket Heights community, that we have been able to ensure students are receiving an excellent academic experience.  In our classrooms, our students are provided with opportunities to investigate the world around them and are learning to use their voices to affect positive change.  Tasks are student driven and are developed to enhance critical thinking skills. Students are challenged on a daily basis and have numerous opportunities to develop essential learning skills.

Students have access to a wide range of technology in their classrooms that are utilized to further access the curriculum as well as to develop problem solving and collaboration skills, and as tools to present their thinking in innovative ways, all while being aware of their responsibility to be digital citizens.

At Maple Leaf Public School, we believe it is important to look at the whole child and ensure we are meeting the needs of all.  This includes addressing the social emotional well-being and investigating the strengths, needs and interests of all students to ensure everyone feels connected and a part of our school community.

As a community, we are very proud of and value the diversity that exists within our school.  We learn from each other on a daily basis and in turn further develop understanding, togetherness and a sense of community.

As we move forward, we look to work closely with our community and students to promote a welcoming and inclusive learning environment where well-being and academics are central to our daily practice.  This will be achieved by promoting and valuing the core statements located in our Touchstone.

E. Cranney  (Principal)
