Grade 9 Instrumental Music, Repertoire

Do you love to perform? Are you looking forward to special
opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom? Then AHS MUSIC is for you! Concert Band,
Jazz Band, Choir, a cappella singers and Music Council are all open to you if
you take grade nine music. This grade
nine repertoire instrumental course is open to new and experienced musicians
who want to be involved in making good music. It is the grade nine performing group,
occurring outside of the regular school day, and goes all year long. This course helps with the continuation of the
improvement of skills during the semesters students are not in the daytime
music class. If you plan to take music in high school this course, paired
with the course below, is the recommended start. Through sectional rehearsal and full band
rehearsal, students complete the activities necessary to earn this full credit
and to continue their instrumental music skills. This course emphasizes the
performance of music at a level that strikes a balance between challenge and
skill and is aimed at developing technique, sensitivity, and imagination.
Students will participate in creative activities that teach them to listen
with understanding, and reflect upon their own performances as well as that
of other ensembles they are exposed to. They will also learn correct musical
terminology and its appropriate use. Students
are encouraged to take the accompanying daytime credit below to participate
in the special opportunities offered to the grade nine music students.

Music at Aurora High offers
outstanding experiences outside the classroom and develops life-long
friendships. This grade nine instrumental music course is open to new and
experienced musicians who want to be involved in making good music. This
daily music class offers students amazing opportunities to improve their
performance skills and occurs in their very first semester of high school. The learning curve in this course is
exponential. If you plan to take music
in high school this course, paired with the course above, is the recommended
start. This course emphasizes the creation and performance of music at a
level consistent with previous experience and is aimed at developing
technique, sensitivity, and imagination. Students will develop musical
literacy skills by using the creative and critical analysis processes in
composition, performance, and a range of reflective and analytical activities. Students will develop an understanding of
the conventions and elements of music, of safe practices related to music,
and will develop a variety of skills transferable to other areas of their
life. Students are encouraged to take the
accompanying repertoire credit above to be able to participate in the special
opportunities offered to the concert band in second semester of grade nine.

Grade 10 Instrumental Music, Repertoire

This Grade Ten Instrumental Repertoire
course is a continuation of the repertoire course offered in grade nine and helps
bridge the learning gap in the year between the grade nine and ten day
courses. It is the formation of the Grade Ten Symphonic Band performing
group, consisting of band rehearsals and sectionals throughout the school
year. Students enrolled in this course are eligible to perform at concerts,
in festivals, and on tour. It is
recommended that students have already taken AMU101 and AMR101. This course
emphasizes performance of music at an intermediate level that strikes a
balance between challenge and skill. Student learning will include
participating in creative activities and listening perceptively. Students
will also be required to develop a thorough understanding of music, including
the elements, and terminology.

This Grade Ten Instrumental Music Course
occurs in semester two and is a continuation of the concepts learned in
AMU1O1. Students grow so much in their musicianship and performance skills in
this daily grade ten music class. This amazing course emphasizes the creation
and performance of music at a level consistent with previous experience. Students will develop musical literacy
skills by using the creative and critical analysis processes in composition,
performance, and a range of reflective and analytical activities. Students will develop their understanding
of musical conventions, practices and terminology and apply the elements of
music in a range of activities. They
will also explore the function of music in society with reference to the
self, communities and cultures through the exploration of the history of the
American Jazz Idiom.

Welcome to Senior Music at Aurora
High! This Grade Eleven Instrumental Music
Repertoire Course is a full-credited music course outside of the school day,
from September to June. It begins in in the semester the students are not in
class and thus bridges the gap between grade 10 and 11 music classes. It is
recommended that you also take AMU3M1.
Participation in this course along with the semester two daytime
course allows students the performing opportunities given to the grade 11
Wind Ensemble (concerts, festivals, tours etc). This course develops students’ artistic
knowledge and skills through the performance of music and preparation of
musical productions. Students will perform appropriate works, particularly
works in contemporary popular styles.

This grade eleven instrumental
music course is the continuation of the grade ten instrumental course and
offers students new challenges and new opportunities at the senior level. Student leadership across the music
department is fostered here.
Performance growth is exponential in this course. AMR3M1 has prepared the students to continue
the learning process now on a daily basis. This course emphasizes the
appreciation, analysis, and performance of various kinds of music, including
baroque and classical music. Students will have opportunity to develop their
musical literacy through the creation, appreciation, analysis, and
performance of music, including traditional, commercial, and art music. Students will apply the creative process
when performing appropriate technical exercises, and repertoire, and will
employ the critical analysis processes when reflecting upon, responding to,
and analyzing live and recorded performances.
Students will consider the function of music in society and the impact
of music on individuals and communities. They will explore how to apply
skills developed in music to their life and careers.

music repertoire course is a full credited course beginning in September and
ending in June, (Culminating in the semester the students are not in class). It
takes the students through their final semester of high school together,
ending their high school experience with a final culminating performance. Participation in this course allows students
the performing opportunities given to the grade 12 Wind Symphony. This course develops students’ artistic
knowledge and skills through the performance of music and preparation of
musical productions. Students will perform appropriate works, particularly
works in contemporary popular styles.

This grade twelve instrumental
music course is the continuation of the grade eleven instrumental course and
offers students new challenges and new opportunities at the grade 12 level. Student
leadership and involvement with our elementary partner schools, plays a big
role in this course. It is the
culminating experience of Music at Aurora High School. Students are exposed to music at a
challenging level and are well equipped for post-secondary music by the end
of the course. This course emphasizes the appreciation, analysis, and
performance of music from the romantic period and the twentieth century.
Students will concentrate on developing interpretive skills, leadership
skills and the ability to work independently. This course enables students to
enhance their musical literacy through the creation, appreciation, analysis,
and performance of music. Students
will perform traditional, commercial, and art music, and will respond with
insight to live and recorded performances.
Students will enhance their understanding of the function of music in
society and the impact of music on themselves and various communities and
cultures. Students will analyze how to
apply skills developed in music to their life and careers.
