Bakersfield P.S. is committed to supporting the Board's literacy focus under the three Board focus areas of Quality Schools, Building Family and Community Capacity and Quality Workplaces. The following is an outline of our school's Plan for Continuous Improvement including highlights of some of the strategies to support student achievement.
Curriculum Implementation and Student Learning: At Bakersfield we have balanced literacy programs which include guided reading at all grade levels and a focus on comprehension, reflection, interpretation, and thinking skills.
Parental and Community Involvement: Our goal is that parents are aware of routines and curriculum expectations for their children so that they might support their learning at home. Student agendas are used daily along with some teacher websites. The students share their learning with parents through a number of goal setting opportunities at the end of second term.
Effective Schools – Our purpose is to have a shared vision of learning (students, parents and staff). We clearly believe that we must work as a team and students are always reminded that they have an important role in how they work together. The art display in the main entrance shows our students and significant mentors in their lives who have helped to make them the wonderful people they are today, and the people they aspire to be in the future.
