HistoryCrossland P.S. is named after Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Crossland. The Crossland family moved to Newmarket from Toronto in 1949. At that time Newmarket had a population of only 4000, a small community where most people knew each other. The Crossland family took on the challenging occupation of farming and did so for forty years. They owned 375 acres of which 175 were used for sheep and cattle farming. Over the years the Crossland family have been actively involved in their community with Agricultural Associations, public service and the St. Paul's Anglican Church.
The Crossland farmland sold in 1989. The decision came about as a result of the population growth in Newmarket. The decision to build a school on the property came with great pleasure to the entire family. They requested that the original Crossland family home be preserved. It still remains today.
Our school motto is "Perseverance Conquers".
Our school mascot is the cougar.
