French African Percussion Workshop
The Afrique program provides French language students the opportunity to explore musical culture from French-speaking African countries while strengthening their French listening and speaking skills. Instructors will discuss the role that music and art play in African societies. An African inspired meal provides the opportunity to discuss and compare differences in dining etiquette in different cultures. The Instructor is Amadou Kienou, from Birkina Faso.
Joanna Moon’s French World Café
Quebecois singer /songwriter / guitarist Joanna Moon is joined by bassist and music educator Kevin Braun in this lively performance. French World Cafe highlights the warmth of French musical culture as it has flourished around the world — exploring songs from France, Quebec and Africa. Students will learn how to play spoons as well as the lyrics to a French African song. The performance is followed by a French meal served in French with the help of the students roleplaying as French waiters. The afternoon provides students with the opportunity to expand their knowledge of French culture and practice their comprehension skills while gaining a better understanding of the phrase “joie de vivre.”
French Cooking School
Students will learn how to cook an authentic French meal from the chef and participate in the preparation of the meal . Students will use vocabulary and expressions studied in class in the Food Unit. Students will prepare a recipe of their own as an Oral Presentation for the class after learning French cooking techniques.
