Our Denne School Council is composed of up to 9 voting members and any parent of a Denne student as well as the Principal and at least one Staff member. The objective of our meetings is to listen to concerns of parents, pass school policies relating to students, apply for the PROGrant (a Ministry of Education grant that is offered to schools to help engage parents in various projects or evening events), organize fundraising opportunities and direct the spending of fundraising money. Our meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month in the school library from 7pm-9pm.
In the 2012-2013 year Denne received $1000 PROGrant to create a Parent Library. The books in this Library are available to any parent in the school and are of various subjects from bullying to nutrition. The books are in the Office and may be signed out at any time.
This school year (2013-2014), council applied and received the PROGrant again! Our theme this year for the grant is The Arts and Curriculum. Please keep an eye out for information regarding future evening events with regards to the PROGrant. The Halloween Hop is another council initiative, our major fundraiser of the school year. We also support movie nights (both after school features for students and also family movie nights), working Wednesdays (an evening where parents get together to cut and paste and help out the teachers while socializing with other parents) and Family Fun Nights.
