NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY

Library Corner June

May was a fabulous month in the Library!  So many great events happening.  We kicked off May with Alessia Dickson, teen author, speaking to Grades 7 & 8.  What an inspiring story!  We look forward to her sequels to The Crystal Chronicles in the coming months and years!  Students in grades 3 to 6 were entertained by Michael Wade, the author of the And Then It Happened series.  We learned that anyone can be an author and we learned how to make our writing funny to entertain readers.

Battle of the Books

What a great turn out we had for Battle of the Books.  There were over 30 participants who came to the Library every Thursday to read, test their knowledge of what they had read and be apart of a fabulous reading club!  Two teams were selected to represent Dr. Roberta Bondar Public School at Herbert G Carnegie Public School.  The teams dressed in characters from books.  Our school dressed up as Colossal Canada and the football team from Just My Rotten Luck.  Congratulations to DRBPS Team #2 who placed and congratulations to DRBPS Team #1 who placed second in the competition.  The exciting part of the competition was DRBPS Team #1 tied with Herbert G Carnegie at the end of the questions.  The two teams went to a lightening round, where they had to answer as many questions in 2 1/2 minutes.  Carnegie finished with 20 points and DRBPS finished with 16.  A very exciting ending to the competition.  We hope all the participants enjoyed being part of Battle of the Books!  Thank you to Ms. Del Priore, Mrs. Tobin, Ms. Weatherston and all our DRBPS families who came out to cheer!  We hope to see you next year!

Library Books are Due Back In June

Friday, June 16th Library books are due back to the Library.  Prior to this date, students will receive a note from the Library of the books currently signed out.  Students should return the books by Friday, June 16th.  After Friday, June 16th if the books have not been returned to the Library, students will receive a payment notice to cover the cost of the lost books.  Thank you for your support in getting books back to the Library.

Vaughan Public Libraries will be visiting Dr. Roberta Bondar Public School in June and give mini presentations to Kindergarten to Grade 8.  We hope our Bondar families have the opportunity to visit Vaughan Public Libraries over the summer!

Thank you,

Mrs. Lonsway
