Dear Elder’s Mills Parents,

Student safety and well-being is our main priority!  New bussing schedules and routes are put into practice during the first two weeks in September and do present frustrating challenges and worries for parents. To improve our communication and service in response issues that parents have brought to our attention, here are some points of reference:

Student Pick upf & Drop-Off

-The transportation department asks parents to be at their child’s stop 10 minutes before and after the time noted on www.schoolbuscity.com for both the morning pick-up and the drop off time.  Once September bus routines, schedules and routes are in place, this 10 minute guideline applies; however, during the first two weeks in September and through the year on occasion, this 10 minute window may indeed be longer due to unforeseen circumstances such as excessive traffic jams, mechanical bus problems, inclement weather and substitute drivers.  We ask for your patience and understanding during this time and truly apologize for the inconvenience that some of you have experienced.

End of the Day: Student Drop-Off

-As already stated, bus pick-up and drop-off times are approximate.  Should a bus driver not see a parent or caregiver at a stop for a grade 1-3 student, they will not drop off the child on the street.  The protocol is that the driver will keep the student on the bus and notify the bus company of the situation and the bus company will alert the school before 4:15 that the driver will be returning the student to the school at the end of their bus run which can be between 4:15-5:00 p.m. depending on the bus’ distance from the school in rush hour.  Once the school has received this message from the bus company, the school lets parents know of what is occurring and asks them to pick up their child at the school.

-Through the year, should for any reason you will be late getting to your child’s stop, please call the school to let us know and we will alert the bus company of that.

-Also, if your child takes a bus after school and you wish to pick them up after school and drive them home, please inform the school office before 2:30 p.m. by calling us at 905-893-1631 and arrive at school between 3:00-3:15 and we will call your child to the office.  Please do not take your child out of the organized bus lines outside or try to take your child off a loaded bus.

-Between 3:15-4:30 p.m., we have our school secretary, Mme Buscema at the phone to address all parent inquiries about the afternoon bussing for that particular day.   If you have any bus concerns or questions, please call the main school number @ 905-893-1631.  If all the phone lines are busy or you get voicemail, please e-mail Mme Buscema at:  daniela.buscema@yrdsb.ca.

Please inform us of all bussing issues and will work to improve our communication and service.  Also, please check www.schoolbuscity.com on a regular basis for posting on late busses and adjustments to your child’s pick-off and drop off times.  Should any major route changes occur during the year, we will send home a note from our transportation department to your attention.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding regarding bussing.

Mme Walke

Principal
