History
In 1846, the Village of Markham built a frame school house on or near the site of Franklin Street P.S.  The original frame building was severely damaged by a fire in 1886 and was replaced by a 4-room brick building in 1886, called Markham Village Public School.  In 1906, the school was once again damaged by a fire. In 1951, the building was enlarged and in the 1960's the name was changed to Franklin Street Public School.  Between 1949 and 1968, four renovations added nineteen classrooms, a resource centre and a general purpose room. French Immersion was introduced in 1985, forming a dual track school.  For more information please see The Official Site of the City of Markham

Facilities
In 1992, Franklin's gym, stage, resource centre, staffroom and office were updated. There are now 34 classrooms, a gymnasium and a well furnished bilingual library. A child-care center, owned and operated by Rainbows is also located at Franklin Street P.S. They provide before and after school care.
