HistoryIn 1846, the Village of Markham built a frame school house on or near the site of Franklin Street P.S. The original frame building was severely damaged by a fire in 1886 and was replaced by a 4-room brick building in 1886, called Markham Village Public School. In 1906, the school was once again damaged by a fire. In 1951, the building was enlarged and in the 1960's the name was changed to Franklin Street Public School. Between 1949 and 1968, four renovations added nineteen classrooms, a resource centre and a general purpose room. French Immersion was introduced in 1985, forming a dual track school.
