 Welcome Back

On behalf of the staff at Fred Varley School and myself, we are pleased to welcome back all our returning students and families.  A special welcome is extended to all our new students and families.  I hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable summer vacation and that your children are ready for an exciting school year full of rich learning opportunities.

As the new principal at Fred Varley, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the staff, students and parents of the Fred Varley community.  I have been graciously welcomed in my new role. Thanks to all of you, Fred Varley has already begun to feel like home.  I visited the school in June several times and was thoroughly impressed with the respectful and inclusive behaviour at Fred Varley P. S.   I am truly delighted to join the Fred Varley team, and I look forward to get to know you and the students and work together to continue to improve student achievement and help each student find his/her individual success.

I would also like to thank Mrs. Lori Hall for her dedication and hard work over the last years.  She has made a lasting impact on the school and in the lives of the staff, students and community members with whom she worked.  We wish her all the best in her new journey in retirement.

Preparing a school for the beginning of a new school year takes the hard work and commitment of many people.  I would like to recognize the dedication and efforts of the Fred Varley staff in preparation for the 2018-2019 school year.  The caretakers, Mr. Cachola, Mr. Jablonski, Ms. Hope-Blundell and Mr. Butterworth have worked throughout the summer months and their efforts are clearly visible as you enter the school. During the week of August 27th, Ms. Chan and Ms. Edgar, our incredible office staff, have been busy with new student registrations and completing the numerous office tasks required to launch a new school year.  And, last, but certainly not least, the teachers who have also worked at various times throughout the summer to set up their classrooms and programs to ensure a successful school year for all students.

This year we will continue our journey to improve all students’ achievement through intentional focused instruction for all students.  In addition, we will work together to continue to build a safe, supportive and inclusive school climate.  We understand that a positive, respectful, collaborative school environment is a powerful support to differentiating instruction and meeting the needs of all students.

Please take some time at home to ask your child about their learning each day.  Your support will help embed key learning practices, attitudes and expectations, which will remain with your child throughout their learning journey.  We know that when parents, teachers and students view one another as partners in education, a caring community is formed and student learning is supported.

Fred Varley PS has a reputation for high academic and behavioural expectations, a talented and dedicated staff, and a supportive community.  We intend to maintain these high expectations and with your support and guidance continue to lead your children, our students, on the path to being not only productive, but respectful and responsible members of society.

The success and well-being of our students is maximized when parents work with us as partners. I am looking forward to working together with all of you as we collaborate to do what’s best for the students at Fred Varley Public School.

Best regards,

Dina Fabian
