Welcome to Highgate P.S.! We are a proud community of learners who
welcome new and returning community members to our school. Parents and families
are key partners in Education, and we endeavor to promote strong partnerships
and collaborative initiatives with all our families.
Highgate P.S. is an Identity-Affirming, inclusive learning
environment where all students feel a strong sense of Belonging &
Mattering. The staff engages our students in a wide variety of clubs and activities,
from sports to music to morning virtual announcement teams, to peer mentors.
The Highgate staff are dedicated to student well-being and offer
many exciting opportunities for students to develop as leaders. “Equity
Champions” lead many Parent-Engagement events that highlight learning, invite
participation, and celebrate student excellence. The Highgate Community Kite
Festival; Jewish Heritage Month – Staff Challah Bake; Djembe Drumming with
Griot (Storyteller) Babarinde Williams; Poet & Author Nadine Williams; Indigenous
Elder, Artist, Deron. Ahsén nase Douglas reflects our Parent
Engagement initiatives, led by our Equity Champions and Teacher Leaders. We
continue to strengthen and extend our partnerships with community members to
bring rich learning and inquiry into our school. Learning is fun at Highgate
P.S. and aligns with our shared belief that every student can achieve success when
we establish and foster optimal learning environments for engagement,
well-being, voice, agency, and affirming identity.
Our collective work in Anti-Oppression integrates Culturally
Responsive Practices and allows for opportunities where students explore many
themes and concepts in Equity, Human Rights, and Inclusion. Intermediate
students at Highgate have produced an award-winning video expressing Human
Rights. Students, staff, and community members can now access identity-affirming spaces such as our Multi-Faith Prayer & Meditation Space when
visiting Highgate.
