Our School
History
On April 6, 1955, at a meeting of the Newmarket Public School Board of Trustees, a motion was carried unanimously to name the new school on the west side of Newmarket, J.L.R. Bell P.S. Mr. John Lawrence Reid Bell had been an energetic member of the Board for several years, and had served as Chairman of the Board for three years at the time of his recognition. Little time was lost and by June 1955, a tender of $145 000 had been accepted for the total cost of a ten room, one storey brick school including furniture, playground, paving around the school and other items.

Our school motto is Pride in Self, Pride in School, Pride in Community.

Our School Mascot is the J.L.R Bell Jaguar.

Facilities
Construction of J.L.R. Bell P.S. began in 1955 and students were admitted in January of 1956. In 1968, an addition to the Northwest corner provided a gymnasium, staffroom, library and storage area. It also included a furnace room which was badly needed to replace 4 smaller furnaces situated throughout the school.
