SAFE SCHOOL
REMINDERS – Please Help Us Keep All Our Students Safe!
We
have a number of safety procedures in place to try to keep your children as
safe as possible while they are with us. Below are a few procedures that we
would like to bring to your attention:
Walking
to School and Safe Play
Students
should always be crossing the street at the corner (and not in the middle of
the street) and looking both ways before crossing if there is no crossing
guard. Older siblings should be making sure that their younger
siblings are with them as they cross safely.
As
well, some students are playing with soccer or tennis balls as they are
walking. If they lose control of the balls and they roll out into
the street, they should not be darting out after them.
Little Rouge Strives to Be A
NUT SAFE SCHOOL
Due to the severe allergy to
peanuts and/or nuts of several of our students, we are asking that no
peanuts or nut products be brought into the school for
snacks, lunches, or class parties. We are also asking that no
home-baked products be brought into the school, either, as we are
unable to guarantee the occurrence of cross-contamination by nut products in
your home. If you are sending in store bought baked goods, please
ensure that there is a label from the vendor indicating that
the product is nut-free. Thank you for your support of our efforts
to maintain a safe school environment for all of our students.
SIGN IN/OUT for
Visitors/Volunteers
From time to time
parents/grandparents come to the school during recess and go out to the yard to
look for their children. For safety reasons, we ask that all
visitors and volunteers, whether family members or other community
members, sign in at the main office when entering the school. You
will then get a “Visitor” badge to wear while you are here. If there
is an urgent matter and you need to locate your child during recess, we will
page your child from the office and have him/her come in from the yard to see
you. Although it may be tempting to do so, please do not go straight
from the parking lot to the yard. For the safety of the children,
Staff on Yard Duty have been asked to approach any adults on the yard without a
Visitor/Volunteer Badge to re-direct them to the office. Thank you
for your support and understanding in this matter.
SAFE ARRIVAL
Ensuring the safety of your
children is our priority. PLEASE REPORT ABSENCES DAILY.
Attendance is taken both in the
morning and the afternoon each day. If you know your child will be
absent, please call the office as soon as possible.
You can leave a message after
hours at: 905-202-5960. In the case where we do not
hear from a parent and we have been unable to reach a parent to verify an
absence, it is the policy of York District School Board to contact the police
and report the child as missing.
FOOD RESTRICTIONS
For
health, religion and dietary/allergy reasons, food should not be provided
for children’s birthdays. Non-food items such as pencils,
stickers, erasers etc. are instead a fun way for a child to celebrate a special
day. Thank you for your support of this initiative and the well-
being of our students.
KISS-N-RIDE
The traffic flow through the school’s parking
lot is quite substantial before and after school and we need to be focused on
the safety of the children entering and exiting cars and those walking to or
from the building. Parents driving cars are asked to drop off/ pick
students up in the KISS-N-RIDE area only of the parking lot and to proceed
with extreme caution through this area. Please have students
exit the car on the side with the curb – not into the parking
lot. When entering or exiting the KISS-N-RIDE area please be careful to watch for students or
staff who are walking by or supervising this area. We do not want
anyone to be injured. Please do not enter the bus loop to drop
off/pick up students. It is strictly to be used by school buses only.
Please DO NOT PARK in the
bus loop and the KISS-N-RIDE loop as these are designated fire
routes. If you need to get out of your car, you must park your car
in a parking spot. There are additional parking spots located on the
road in front of the school as well.
The City of Markham parking enforcement is always in the area
surrounding the school and we do not want any of our families being ticketed
for parking illegally in these areas. As mentioned earlier, these are
designated fire routes and the fine for stopping or parking in these loops is
$250+. In addition, no one should be parking in the handicapped
parking spots in the parking lot unless they have a permit. The
fine for parking in a handicapped spot without a permit is $450+.
Your cooperation in these matters will ensure the safe
arrival and departure of all our
students, staff and parents. Thank you!
