As with each school in the York Region District School Board, Louis-Honore Frechette P.S. support student learning through the curriculum standards set out by the Ontario Ministry of Education and many other co-curricular activities.

A focus on student leadership: Grade 7 and 8  students are invited to be active members of our Student Leadership Team. These enthusiastic students organize school assemblies, raise funds, organize spirit days and bring forward their opinions on pertinent school issues.

A focus on literacy: Based on our School Plan, we continue to focus on ensuring that all students are able to read unfamiliar content area texts in French by the end of grade 2. Support from our SERT, our Literacy Teachers and Teacher Librarian is provided to primary teachers and classes to help this occur. Improved student achievement in the junior division is a beginning focus area.

Assessment and Evaluation: We continue to address this priority of our school plan with a practical look at effective use of rubrics, differeniation and descriptive feedback.

Creating a positive school climate: We have sought input from and addressed the various needs identified by staff, students and parents regarding creating the best possible school climate.

Safe and Supportive Schools/Character Education/Antiracist and Equity Education
Every student has the right to learn in a safe and supportive environment. The York Region District School Board has a Safe and Supportive Schools Policy and a defined procedure to implement the policy. Both the policy and procedure support the view that student discipline involves a continuum of support including prevention, intervention and appropriate consequences. The YRDSB remains committed to the inclusion of anti-racist and equity education in its policies and programs.

Safe and Supportive Schools initiatives that are very important at Louis-Honore Frechette P.S. include:
  • Anti-Bullying Programs
  • Character Education Assemblies and Committees
  • Informal social skills counseling
  • On-Going Counseling
  • Safe Schools Surveys
In addition, Louis-Honore Frechette P.S. supports the development of character education in the York Region District School Board. The following is an overview of the school's Character Education initiatives:

Character Education: Our motto is: "We Strive for Academic Excellence; We Value the 3 R's: Respectful, Responsible and Reasonable Behaviour." At characters assemblies we recognize and celebrate students who in each class have demonstrated excellence in Character.
