Notes on Translation
The electronic translation service on the York Region District School Board's website is hosted by Google Translate. The quality of the translation will vary in some of the languages offered by Google. Google Translate is a free service and currently offers translation in over 50 languages, although an impressive number, this does not capture all languages or dialects. The basic translation’s goal is to capture the general intention of the original English material.
The York Region District School Board does not guarantee the quality, accuracy or completeness of any translated information. Before you act on translated information, the Board encourages you to confirm any facts that are important to you and affect any decisions you may make.
The York Region District School Board is committed to parent, family and community engagement, and it is our hope that by providing this tool on our website that we are making our information more accessible to families whose first language is not English and thereby enabling better engagement in public education.

Art is not a thing; it is a way.
Elbert Hubbard
The Visual Arts Department at Maple High Schools offers a rich and diverse program that builds problem solving skills, visual literacy and prepares our students for an ever changing world. We are committed to maximizing the artistic potential of every student. Visual Arts courses focus on studio and art appreciation where students are exposed to various art forms, materials, tools, techniques and styles. Visual Arts is a place where students can explore their creativity and develop skills that apply to such fields as Architecture, Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Photography, and Animation, to name but a few. The program will expose students to traditional and contemporary directions in the Visual Arts in such areas as: drawing, painting, sculpture, photography and media arts.
Students will develop critical and aesthetic language skills through the analysis of key works of art through the ages, from a variety of cultural backgrounds. The foundation year is exploratory in nature, designed to introduce the many areas of concentration available in senior years. Our program includes courses in the Visual Arts, Media Arts and Photography.
