The overall aim of the science program at Middlefield C.I. is to ensure scientific literacy for every student. Each science course offered at Middlefield C.I. is designed to promote three main goals which are:
- To understand the basic concepts of science
- To develop the skills, strategies, and habits of mind required for scientific inquiry;
- To relate science to technology, society, and the environment.
The science courses offered to MCI students are available at the University, College & Workplace level. MCI's Science department is filled with caring & dynamic teachers who aim to make Science fun and interesting for their students. Holistic evaluation methods are utilized which include a combination of traditional methods such as tests, quizzes and labs, as well as role-plays, investigations, journals, debates, field trips, presentations & career exploration.
In addition to enrolling in our science courses, students are also able to pursue their interest in science beyond the classroom by becoming involved in extracurricular activities such as the York Region Science Olympics, the MCI Lab Assistants program, the MCI Science Club, the Avogadro Crystal Growing competition, Science mentors and many other contests sponsored by various universities.
