​Why consider SHSM – Business

This program enables students to:

  • ​Customize their secondary school education to suit their interests and skills

  • Complete sector recognized certifications to build their resume

  • Prepare for post-secondary opportunities

  • Explore and refine their career goals

  • Earn the SHSM Distinction on their OSSD

  • Engage in experiential learning with like-minded peers

Required Certifications (4):

  • CPR level C (with AED)
  • Standard First Aid
  • WHMIS generic
  • Customer Service

Elective Certifications (minimum 2):

Reach Ahead / Experiential Learning Field Trips:

Include, but not limited to:

  • Tour of Centennial college’s Business programs
  • College & university speakers @ MCI
  • Skills competitions
  • CPA’s No Limits Conference
  • CPA’s guest speakers
  • OBEA contests

Co-op Placements (minimum  2 credits- ½ a day for 1 semester):

Students apply their learning from an SHSM pathway course in an authentic learning environment. The placement is connected to the business sector and may include the following placement types:

  • Accounting
  • Marketing
  • Law
  • Social Media
  • Sales Associate
  • Construction Technology
  • Event Planning
  • Graphic Design
  • Human Resources
  • Hotel Management
  • Sports Management
  • Fashion Merchandising

Four or the following: BUSINESS, FAMILY STUDIES, CANADA AND WORLD STUDIES, OR TECHNOLOGY Major Credits between grade 11 and 12:
