Purpose Statement
PURPOSE OF THE SCHOOL COUNCIL

To support improved student learning and develop an increased sense of shared accountability for public education.  We aim to achieve this by:
  • Advising the Principal/Vice-Principal (and Superintendents and Trustees as needed).  While all schools follow the same basic policies and practices, parents on School Council can give advice to administrators as to how they can best be applied at our school given our knowledge of the community and our children.
  • Participating in the development and implementation of the School Plan for Continuous Improvement.
  • Communication to other parents regarding the activities of Red Maple.
  • Fundraising to enhance the school life of our students.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
All parents or guardians of students registered at Red Maple are eligible to attend School Council meetings.  All staff members are also welcome.  You can attend all meetings or just the occasional meeting. Parents interested in School Council Executive positions will be provided with nomination forms at the first meeting.

General Operating Guidelines

  • Unless otherwise indicated, the Council will meet at 7:00 pm on the First Monday of each month from October through June;
  • There will be no limit on the size of the Council membership;

  • The Council Executive may consist of a Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Fundraising Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator, and Community Representative.
