History and Facilities
Red Maple Public School is a unique school community. It is part of a tri-party agreement among the York Region District School Board, the York Catholic District School Board, and the Town of Richmond Hill. The building is known as the Langstaff Discovery Centre, which is named in honour of the Langstaff family, longtime residents of Richmond Hill and original owners of the property.

The Langstaff Discovery Centre is home to Red Maple Public School, Pope John Paul II Catholic School, and the Langstaff Community Centre. The community centre officially opened on June 30, 2003 and Red Maple Public School opened on September 2, 2003. Both schools share the playground facilities that are part of the Langstaff Discovery Centre.

All three parties work in a collaborative manner in order to provide the best programs possible for all of the children within the community.

The name Red Maple was chosen for three important reasons: its association with an important Canadian symbol and the multicultural nature of the community, its link to the Red Maple Library Award, and the actual street address for the school which is 155 Red Maple Road.
