                 School Starts – 8:25 a.m
                 Lunch – 12:15 – 1:15 p.m.
                 Dismissal – 2:55 p.m.

Snacks: We would like to foster an awareness of good health and nutrition. Therefore we encourage nutritious snacks such as crackers and cheese, yogurt, fruit, vegetables, small sandwich etc. Please remember to send a small nutritious snack and a drink with your child everyday, as well as their lunch. We encourage the use of reusable containers, ones that your child can easily manage on their own. Please be aware that we are an eco-friendly school and support boomerang lunches and snacks (i.e., all garbage and recycling that is generated from home will be returned in their lunch bags). Sharing of daily snacks is discouraged in the Kindergarten rooms. To ease confusion at snack time, please pack the snack separately from the lunch.
Allergy Alert: RAPS is a nut-safe school. Due to severe nut allergies, please do not send any snacks that contain peanuts or tree-nut products (pecans, walnuts, hazelnut spread etc.)

Indoor shoes and clothing: Please label all removable clothes, shoes, knapsacks, hats, etc. Your child will need a pair of white-soled, non-marking running shoes (necessary for gym) to leave at school for daily use. When your child enters the classroom, they will be expected to change into their “indoor shoes”. If your child has not yet mastered the art of shoelace tying, please use Velcro or slip-on shoes instead. We find that children become frustrated when they cannot manage those stubborn laces!!

About Independence: One of the biggest goals in Kindergarten is to promote and develop each child’s independence. You can help by teaching and encouraging your child to handle dressing and toileting needs by themselves. These skills are very important and are a significant factor in establishing your child’s confidence and self-esteem. We ask that you pack an extra pair of underwear, pants, socks and a shirt in your child’s backpack - just in case. Please pack them in a bag with your child's name on it and leave them in their backpack.  If your child is not yet toilet trained, someone must be available to come to school and change your child if they have an accident.
In order to foster this independence even further, please begin the school year by making a habit of always saying your good-byes at the Kindergarten gate upon your arrival. We will remind the children to look in their knapsacks once they are inside for any notes, library books, etc. We feel that it is important that this should be their responsibility.

Knapsacks: We strongly recommend a knapsack that is big enough to hold large library books, snacks, extra clothes, artwork and all of the letters that come home on a regular basis. Please check your child’s knapsack for a large Ziploc communication bag that contains notes, office info and other “surprises”.    **Please check and return daily.**

Toys: Please keep all toys at home, unless requested. These items may get lost and/or broken and often distract children from the regular programme.

Donated Supplies: Our school board supplies the necessary materials needed to run our program. However, if you would care to make a donation, items such as Crayola MARKERS and Kleenex are always useful. We are also willing to accept any and all creative craft materials that you might have lying around the house. You will be amazed at the ways your child will transform it before it comes back home to you!
Safety: No child will be permitted to leave the school with a person other than a parent or designated caregiver, unless we are notified. Please call the school or send a note with your child explaining any changes in your daily routines. Please do not leave voice mail messages for changes in pick-up routines as we are not always able to check messages during the school day.

Birthdays: We recognize how important birthdays are to young children. If you are planning on sending something in, please make the choice healthy and send a nutritious treat or small gift (pencils, erasers, stickers) for everyone to enjoy on your child’s special day. If you do send treats, please let us know in advance so that we may make suitable plans for sharing. *ALLERGY ALERT* Please no nut products. Thank you.

Scholastic Book Orders: Each month we will send you Scholastic Book order forms from which you can order a variety of books at reasonable prices. As well as your child benefiting from the books they receive each month, the classroom also gets bonuses through the orders placed.

If you are walking your child to and from school, we ask that you please drop off and pick up your child at the Kindergarten Corral and not the classroom. During inclement weather please continue to wait outside in order to alleviate confusion/congestion in the classroom. If the weather is severe, please wait in the hall outside your child's classroom. If you are driving your child to school, we encourage you to use the Kiss and Ride at the front of the school. This runs from 8:05-8:25 a.m. each day. If your child is going to be absent from school, you will need to notify the office directly, not the teacher at 905-727-9811.
We are looking forward to an exciting and rewarding year together. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.  We hope to see you at the BBQ on Thursday October 2nd.

                                       Yours Sincerely,
                                        “The Kindergarten Team”
