What is School
Council?
School Council is a
collaborative and co-operative partnership comprised of volunteer parents,
school staff, and members of the community whose mission is to enrich the learning and school environment for students at Ross Doan PS.
What does a School Council do?
Our School Council does a variety of things to achieve its mission to support student learning and the school culture. Our School Council aims to be involved in:
- parent/community engagement activities/information
- consulting the school administration on decision making
- volunteering at events and in the school
- supporting the school improvement plan (math, wellness, equity/indigenous education)
- fundraising to enhance student learning
Who can be part of the School Council?
Members of the School
Council are elected at the beginning of every school year. Any parent who has a
child attending Ross Doan PS can participate in the election process and all parents are invited
to attend School Council meetings.
Why does a School Council Fundraise?
While the school is
responsible for providing basic materials and equipment for student learning,
there are budgetary limitations and school board restrictions as to what the
school can buy that is over and above defined basic needs. School Council fundraising initiatives assist the learning environment and opportunities for students.
How can I help?
Every time you take
part in a school council activity (such as a Move-a-thon, Funscrip, Direct Donation, pizza lunches, etc.) you
help to raise money to improve our children’s learning environment.
In addition, you can
volunteer to assist with School Council activities. Any help, big or
small, is always appreciated.
