Call it what you wish: the Library, the Resource Centre, or the Learning Commons . . . we welcome all designations, as long as you understand we are not only a place where you can find a great book to read, discover different print and online resources that have been purchased specifically to help you succeed in your courses, or work alone or collaborate with peers on school assignments. We are also a place where you can find specialized staff who will help you learn how to locate, evaluate, use, cite, transform, and present information in a way that best suits your purposes and learning style. Of course, we can also match you up with the perfect book that is just for you!
Thornlea teachers work with teacher-librarians to develop curriculum-based research projects that will help you learn the critical thinking and inquiry skills you need to succeed not only in high school but also in whatever post-secondary path you take, so don't be surprised if you find yourself here working with your teacher and classmates during class time.
Also, you're always welcome to come here before school, starting at 8:30 am, after school, ending at 3:30 pm, or during lunch to check out our print collection, for assistance from Library staff, to work at one of our collaboration-friendly tables, or at one of our student-designated desktop computers and our laptop computers. We also have some 'comfy' chairs in which you can relax with a good book, cafe-style workstations with built-in charging ports, and several new power outlets for personal devices.
In addition, we currently run these student clubs: Thornlea Amnesty International Club, Bookish Book Club, Thornlea Poetry in Voice Team, and The Thornea Deadline Newspaper Club.
We hope to get to know you and provide you with the assistance and support you need to achieve your goals!
