Notes on Translation
The electronic translation service on the York Region District School Board's website is hosted by Google Translate. The quality of the translation will vary in some of the languages offered by Google. Google Translate is a free service and currently offers translation in over 50 languages, although an impressive number, this does not capture all languages or dialects. The basic translation’s goal is to capture the general intention of the original English material.
The York Region District School Board does not guarantee the quality, accuracy or completeness of any translated information. Before you act on translated information, the Board encourages you to confirm any facts that are important to you and affect any decisions you may make.
The York Region District School Board is committed to parent, family and community engagement, and it is our hope that by providing this tool on our website that we are making our information more accessible to families whose first language is not English and thereby enabling better engagement in public education.

Ventura Park School Council
At Ventura Park Public School we are proud of our very active and involved School Council. The School Council works closely with teachers, the Principal and Vice Principal as both advisors and active volunteers in developing and delivering Ventura Park initiatives.
All parents are welcome to join the School Council and are encouraged to participate in school council activities on a regular basis.
School Council Goal:
to support school staff in providing children with the broadest, most enriching educational experience possible, and one which equips each child to be informed, productive, and well-rounded members of the communities in which we live.
Role of School Council:
Provide advice to the Principal in decision making
Encourage parent involvement in the education of students
Assist in school improvement planning
To get involved:
The following is a description of the roles and responsibility for each elected Executive Office:
Chair/Co-chairs:
- Set the agenda for ALL School Council meetings in consultation with the Principal in a timely fashion
- Attend and chair ALL School Council meetings
- Delegate tasks
- All communication to the Principal flows via the School Council Chair
- Ensure the minutes of the School Council meetings are reviewed and communicated to the School Council Members in a timely fashion
- Ensure the School Council Constitution by-laws are reviewed every two years and are readily available to the school community.
- Creates a monthly School Council Bulletin for parent body which summarizes School Council activities and allocation of fundraising dollars to be distributed at the same time as regular school newsletters
- Votes, when decisions by consensus cannot be reached
Secretary:
- Attends ALL School Council meetings
- Records, publishes and forwards the minutes (including attendance) within 10 days to the
Chair/Co-Chairs for review:
- Votes, when decisions by consensus cannot be reached
Treasurer:
- Attends ALL School Council meetings
- Liaise with School Office Assistant re monitoring of School Council budget
- Is present when monies generated through School Council fundraising initiatives are being counted; all counting is done on-site
- Votes, when decisions by consensus cannot be reached
