Drop Zone- Grade 6 to 8 After School Program
On Tuesdays and Thursdays after school, Alexander Muir plays host to the Drop Zone an after school program hosted by the Town of Newmarket. Students in area schools are welcome to attend for $5.00 per session. Pre-registration is required. You can get more information on the Town of Newmarket website. Search for Drop Zone. Students learn healthy cooking tips, homework help, special activities and events. A great way to meet and learn from other teens.

Roots of Empathy Program

Currently Alexander Muir is hosting 3 Roots of Empathy programs in our kindergarten classes. To learn more about the Roots of Empathy program click on the name. 

Healthy Schools
At Alexander Muir P.S. we have partnered with the York Region Public Health departments Healthy Schools program. We offer daily healthy snacks to students at our school. Two times a week we offer fresh fruit options. We promote healthy eating by reminding students to bring in healthy lunches and snacks. We have a daily milk purchase program. Our pizzas for our pizza program are made with multigrain crust. At Alexander Muir we also encourage students to walk to school each day and be physically active!  We track the number of students walking every Wednesday. Join us in promoting a healthy lifestyle.
 
Student Eco-Team
 Our GOLD certified student eco-team is a very active part of our school. We promote litter less lunches, track our recycling and waste management monthly and promote our water bottle ban at the school. We have designed and created an outdoor classroom, created vegetable gardens and planted a butterfly garden at the front of our school. We have installed bird nesting houses and promoted our fundraising goal to purchase a water refilling station through the sale of eco safe lip balm and household cleaners. Our school Blue Box band that has performed at many different venues. We hope that you will help us with this important school focus.
 
Settlement & Education Partnership in York Region (SEPYR) 
Alexander Muir has partnered with SEPYR and is looking at ways to support newcomer families and help foster & build school community supports. SEPYR serves people from diverse cultures. They can assist landed immigrants, refugees & new Canadians with a variety of supports and guidance to help support the transition to life in Canada. Settlement and Education Partnership in York Region (SEPYR) provides settlement services in many languages for Newcomer students and their families in their local schools.
 
YMCA Daycare
We partner with YMCA Daycare.  Currently they offer a pay per use before & after school care program as well as an alternate day kindergarten program. During the summer months they offer summer camp programs.
