A Message from the Administrative Team

Welcome to our school’s website! The purpose of our website is to share information and keep everyone in our school community informed about our school goals, activities occurring at Buttonville Public School and general information.

We are so honoured to be the administrative team at Buttonville! We look forward to getting to know the students and families in our community each year. We are committed to working together to ensure that each child and family is engaged in education, feels safe when they are at school and takes pride in our school. We know the staff at Buttonville are committed to excellence and support the well-being of all students.

At Buttonville we embed the Tribes principles to support student learning. The mission of Tribes is to assure the healthy development of every child so that each has the knowledge, skills and resiliency to be successful in a rapidly changing world. The goal of a Tribes school is to engage all teachers, administrators, students and families in working together as a learning community dedicated to caring and support, active participation, positive expectations for all students. As a school we operate under the agreements of mutual respect, attentive listening, right to pass, and appreciations—no put-downs. We are appreciative of your support in building a positive learning environment.

Each school in York Region has a School Improvement Plan (SIP) in which we set goals to meet the needs of our students. Within our SIP we are currently focusing on how to develop a solid understanding of how to teach Critical Thinking Skills to all our students, throughout all the grades and throughout all areas of the curriculum.  Critical Thinking is about teaching students how to approach issues or subject material in an open-minded manner, to look carefully at various options or opinions and to then reach reasonable conclusions based on relevant factors.  This means as a staff and as a community we encourage students to experiment with various methods before deciding on how to best approach a problem whether it is in math, science, literacy, music and so on. When reading our School Improvement Plan (SIP), you will notice that we have embedded this goal throughout our plan along with other goals to be achieved.

As always, we encourage you to contact us should you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to our continued partnership and we thank you for supporting your child(ren) everyday!
