Notes on Translation
The electronic translation service on the York Region District School Board's website is hosted by Google Translate. The quality of the translation will vary in some of the languages offered by Google. Google Translate is a free service and currently offers translation in over 50 languages, although an impressive number, this does not capture all languages or dialects. The basic translation’s goal is to capture the general intention of the original English material.
The York Region District School Board does not guarantee the quality, accuracy or completeness of any translated information. Before you act on translated information, the Board encourages you to confirm any facts that are important to you and affect any decisions you may make.
The York Region District School Board is committed to parent, family and community engagement, and it is our hope that by providing this tool on our website that we are making our information more accessible to families whose first language is not English and thereby enabling better engagement in public education.

History
Coppard Glen students took an active part in creating our school crest. The crest proudly incorporates four symbols, representing the varied aspects of school life. In celebration of 30 years, and in recognition of who we are as a school community, we have updated the means of our crest. Our school is part of York Region. First Nations people have been living on the land now called York Region for thousands of years. The First Nation peoples and the settlers who arrived here made promises to share this land. These promises are called treaties - in what we now call York Region, there is Treaty 13 and the Williams Treaties. Treaties teach us that all who live here should be respectful of one another. They also teach us that the land is our responsibility. All of nature, the earth, the waters, the plants, the animals are important to Indigenous peoples. Treaties remind us that we must care for mother earth to keep her healthy for those who will live here in the future.
The book represents the book of knowledge and the pursuit of personal levels of academic success. We recognize the lived experiences and the diversity of knowledge and thought that contributes to our learning community and we are committed to teaching and learning in culturally relevant and responsive ways that affirm the identities of all. We recognize that academic success looks, sounds and feels different for each of our unique learners.
The dove connotes peace. Collectively, we recognize the need to respect one another, to understand and respect differences and each unique individual that makes up our school community and to care for and live together in harmony. Kindness matters at all times. We recognize the importance of mental health and wellbeing and the impact that it has on our daily lives. As a school community, we will continue to prioritize positive mental health and wellbeing of all.
The shooting star acknowledges the importance of goal setting and that our students are always reaching for the stars. As we learn and grow, we do so with a growth mindset, hold each other accountable, choose to do what is right and support each other as we work towards our goals.
The hand raised in victory, reflects the success our students achieve when they strive for excellence. We believe that all students are capable of achieving their personal levels of excellence, both academically and socially and, as a school community, and in partnership with families, we are a team that encourages, reflects and supports along the way.
Facilities Coppard Glen P.S. was officially opened in 1993.
Coppard Glen Public School boasts a beautiful atrium and welcoming foyer. Our welcome starts with the Character Education wall mural completed in the summer of 2005. Student posters are proudly hung in the atrium outlining the Character attributes.
Work was completed on an addition in September 2002 which allowed us to open up eight new classrooms to the original school building. The school has 30 classrooms, 1 resource center, 1 computer center, 6 portables, 1 full size gym, and a large multi-function community room. We have an established link with Macklin House Day Care for our before and after school program and this year are working closely with both The Early Years Centre and Community Action Program for Children in Markham.
We are adjacent to a municipal park, field, and track; all well utilized by the school population and community for a variety of organized athletic activities.
