History E.J. Sand P.S. is named after Mr. Eilert J. Sand. Mr. Sand was born in Wisconsin, USA on September 26, 1908.
He graduated from the North Bay Teacher's College, received his B.A. from the University of Western Ontario and his Master's Degree from the University of Toronto. He served in the R.C.A.F. from 1940 – 1945. Eilert then became the Principal of King George V School in Sault Saint Marie. In 1956, Eilert came to Markham-Vaughan I.S.A.#1. When the two townships separated in 1960, Mr. Sand went to Markham as Supervising Principal and Business Administrator. In June 1969, he was appointed Planning Officer for the newly formed York County Board of Education. Mr. Sand passed away on Nov. 2, 1969.
Our school mascot is the Wolverines.
Facilities
E.J. Sand P.S. was officially opened in 1959. An addition was made in 1967.
In September 2018, the EJ Sand school building was demolished to make way for a new building, set to open September 2022. The school is currently housed at 21 Mullen Drive (New Westminster Dr & Mullen Dr).
