Principal's Message

Dear Fossil Hill PS Families:

In the past two years, so much has happened as we work towards becoming the #1 School in the World!  Our staff has been engaged in Imagine Fossil Teams to focus on authentic student-centred learning.  Through these teams we looked at models around the world, and connected professionally via online sources.  Professionally, staff were involved in formal learning structures, including implementing the Comprehensive Math program, Authentic Student Directed Learning Initiatives including Kindness Projects, Philanthropy initiatives, Modern Learning, the new FDK curriculum, designing flexible learning spaces, and continuing to support Health and Well-being with our Wellness Wednesday activities.  Students maintained our school vegetable garden and added to our outdoor environment by creating a bird habitat.

It Starts with YOU! - Our vision, “Inspire students to be successful in all aspects of their lives through the development of character, skills and mindsets necessary to face challenges and be engaged global citizens” was created collaboratively with the support of the Leadership Team, Staff and our School Council.  With the help of a parent and council member, Ms Jeukens, we shifted our thinking from school to student as our end product.

Student voice was also an integral part in helping us shape our vision: leading to our motto, “It Starts With You!”  We believe that everyone in our Fossil Hill community must have this mindset.  Students, staff, parents, and community must know that they we all should do our part.   Starting with each of us as individuals at the centre.  We believe that by building character, skills and mindsets and providing our students with authentic and engaging learning experiences, that they will develop into lifelong learners, engaged and globally connected citizens, and happy, healthy well-rounded individuals.

As a staff, we are committed to working towards our legacy of becoming “the number one school in the world” and supporting our students on each of their personalized learning journeys.  We will seek new learning, challenge our thinking about what education is, continue to redefine what best practices are, reflect on our current practices, and look to engage all stakeholders in our journey (students, parents, and community members).  It’s exciting to “Imagine” the possibilities, but even more exciting to live the journey.
