Glen Shields P.S. is committed to supporting the Board's literacy focus under the three Board focus areas of Quality Schools, Building Family and Community Capacity and Quality Workplaces.
The following is an outline of our school's Plan for Continuous Improvement including highlights of some of the strategies to support student achievement.
Curriculum Implementation and Student Learning:
Our goal is to raise the overall level of reading and writing as measured using standard assessments. To achieve this goal, teachers will make connections between reading and writing and students will know the characteristics of the different forms and genres of reading and writing. Teachers will include all elements of a balanced literacy approach in their programs in addition to Author's Festivals and other co-curricular activities.
Effective Schools:
Our priority is to ensure high expectations for all students. To achieve this, we must have all students and their families feel a part of the school community at Glen Shields. The environment must be safe and allow for an academic focus in each classroom. Ongoing PD for teachers and offering community programs such as PREPS, AOK for preschool students will facilitate achieving our goals.
Parental and Community Involvement:
Glen Shields is committed to helping our parents support their children's learning at home. To this end, we will hold information sessions for parents, keep parents informed about the curriculum being covered in class and share homework strategies in newsletters.
